Starting Kindergarten! What a big boy!

Jaden started Kindergarten last Thursday! He is loving school so far. I wanted to take him to school and pick him up every day, but he insisted that he wanted to ride the bus "like a big boy"! LOL

In the days before he started school, I was a total wreck! I counted and recounted his school supplies because I was convinced I had forgotten to get something, labelled his backpack, shoes, lunch box, and pencil box, changed my mind 5 times about what outfit he would wear on his first day, and just generally was a nervous wreck! This is my one and only child so I've never had to do this before and really didn't know what to expect! I was concerned that Jaden would get to school and when it came time to come home, he wouldn't get on the right bus. So I put his bus number on his backpack tag hoping that someone would check it and get him on the right bus! He made it home just fine, but when the bus pulled up to his bus stop, the bus driver dropped off all the kids but Jaden didn't get off! I was standing there waiting and when the driver closed the doors again, I started waving my arms and yelling "My kid is on there!" The driver opened the doors again and I hopped on yelling Jaden's name! Finally, Jaden stood up and came forward! He just wasn't paying attention to when he was supposed to get off the bus!

When he got home, he talked non-stop about the adventures he had at school! He told me what he had for lunch, that he played on the playground, he played in the rice table, and sang songs with his class! I look forward to 3:30 every day now when he comes home and tells me about his day. It's a special time when he sits on my lap and I can hug him while we connect. I know as he gets older, these special times are going to get fewer and farther between so I am cherishing them now while I can. He is growing up so fast that before I know it, he'll be a teenager and I won't get this time with him that much anymore! If I could slow time down right now, I would gladly do it!

So tell me, dear readers, how was your child's first day of school? And what do you and your child do with your "special time" together? Comments are welcome!

Until next time,

Hugs,

  1. I would have passed out in the aisle and smelling salts would have had to come in to revive me if the bus started to pull away with my son on it, lol!! Glad your son made it home and all was well!

    1. I hear ya! I almost passed out myself! It didn't help that I had been worrying about that very thing happening all day, and then it actually happened! LOL The good thing is, he did make it off the bus that day, and every day since so I don't have to be worried about that anymore! Thanks for your comment, I hope you visit again soon!

  2. I have been through this several times and it doesnt get easier! Each time I am a nervous wreck and teary eyed! This school year my twins are in 7th and my oldest 10th, I take pictures, and then they board the bus..I homeschool my 8 and 6 yr old. but I do remember the days when I took my oldest to school and was crying and the teacher had to hand me tissues and he was like bye mama, it really broke my heart! Love the pictures, he looks so happy, he is a big boy now :-)

    1. Gee thanks for telling me that I have to go through this misery every single year!! LOL I was almost NEUROTIC for like 3 days before the first day of school! Also, I went ahead and let Jaden ride the bus to school on the first day because I knew that if I drove him and had to say goodbye to him in his classroom, I would have started bawling and never leave! LOL I swear I think the first day of school is harder on moms than it is for the kids! Thanks for the comment! I hope you'll follow my blog so we can talk again soon!

    1. Well, good luck next year then! It is really hard to see them go off to school. To me, my son still looks so little but I know that he's a big boy now and needs school to mature. But I want him to stay mommy's little baby a little while longer!
Thanks for the comment! Talk to you again soon I hope!

  4. My daughter will be getting on the bus for the first time tomorrow! I think I'll cry all morning. And there's no way I'd be able to pick out her clothes. She always picks out her own clothes whether she matches or not. Her clothes, her personality, her life, her decisions. . . etc. I just walk next to her and try to be proud, not embarrassed! LOL NOW, about the afternoon bus thing--Holy Moly! I might have freaked out. At least you got on the bus and got him. The teacher told us yesterday that there are kids who fall asleep on the bus and miss their house. Yikes! So many, many things to look forward to. ;)

    1. Oh wow, you get to go through it all tomorrow! Good luck to you! I cried a little when Jaden got on the bus so don't feel badly if you cry! And make sure you see her get off the bus before the driver pulls away! Things will go fine for you. It did for me, except for that one little hiccup! All in all though, everything went pretty smoothly and I'm sure your day will go smoothly as well! Thanks for commenting! Follow my blog so we can talk again soon!

  5. What a brave boy! I walk my daughter right into her classroom each morning and help her get settled (she started kindergarten this year too:) - although I'm sure she wouldn't mind too much if I didn't - she runs straight in there and greets her friends while I put all her folders and lunch things in the right spot:)
All the best for a wonderful first school year!

  6. Tammy... I don't know how you did it! my daughter, baby, started kindergarten on Monday... and I would never be convinced to allow her on the bus (I say that now)... let's just say that I am soooo happy that her school does not have a school bus.. it's a charter school. Anyways.. congrats on surviving the first day of school! Grace, peace and blessings.. Carla
